Last week I had the pleasure of speaking in front of the master students of neuroscience and other researchers at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan. I presented a selection of innovative applications of eye tracking in research and industrial fields.
One student asked a very interesting question at the end of the talk: Will we see eye tracking everywhere in the future?
The short answer is, yes.
The longer answer is based on the benefit eye tracking adds to technology, namely the awareness of the user’s gaze direction. I see it as a necessary step to creating interactive social technologies, and I think tech giants like Google, Apple and Intel share that view; They all have acquired an eye tracking company in the past few years.
It is always a pleasure going back to universities; There is a lot I can learn from students, and the questions they ask pull me out of my thought-box and give me a new perspective on what I do.
Thanks for the invitation and I look forward to the next time!
